HENRI IV FRANCE - MAP

The area shaded green represents France of today. In the days of Henri IV, France was a subset of present day France. Other Kingdoms eventually being bought under the banner of France. Originally Navarre was a Kingdom which straddled the Pyrenees. However in 1512, the King of Aragon annexed, what is now regarded as Haute Navarre, into what eventually became today's Spain. Henri's Navarre was the much smaller part, on the French side of the Pyrenees, known as Basse Navarre. In 1620 Henri's son Louis XIII made Basse Navarre a part of France.
